I'm fairly new to working with electrical components and computer parts except for taking apart old computers. So before I jump head first into building my own PC. I was hoping that someone could point me into the right direction for acquiring the necessary information for someone like myself for learning everything I would need to know about upgrading and building a PC.

please use auto text or bight colors as people using night mode can not see well. 

If you want to plan out a build make a new topic in builds and planning. There we need budget, use, what you need.

 

Also do you know what old PC you have taken apart as if you have a decent old CPU, motherboard and memory you can cut down costs if needed

There are a lot of "Build Logs" / "Build Guides" on the LTT channel that would be good to watch, as they give you the general process of putting everything together. They're very comprehensive on the assembly side of things.

Your first major problem is static,every so often touch the power supply of your pc or get a anti-static leg strap and put it on to your leg and connect it to the power supply,note the power supply should be connected to the wall but not turned on,the cpu socket is quite a problem for some people with shaky hands so align the triangle from the CPU (on the sides) to the triangle on the motherboard socket and gently place the cpu in with no force,but wiggle it around sideways to assure its in place (gently also),you have allot of pc building videos from Linus or other tech youtubers

Like Dresta said static is a big issue so some sort of anti static device would be good also building on a solid non static surface so carpet isn't the best idea although fun to sit criscross on the floor and build a PC, also making sure components are compatible, I slapped myself one time for buying a cooler that didn't fit my motherboard and that's not a good feeling. Also when it comes to power draw make sure you get a good power supply that meets the requirements for the components you have, I ran 2 290x's once on a 750 watt power supply and fried the supply so don't be afraid to go a little excess. Also remember that just because it says that it can output so many watts doesn't mean it does it well, its always good to do research on reviews for all components you are looking at, power supplies included. Those are just some of the basics I can think of.
