so a new mid range gpu would actually do more harm than good? good to know, it came with a fresh installed win 10, but the previous owner formated the shine out of it so... yeah... if i have to buy windows, like, man... 99 us dollars is a LOT of money here in argentina, i'd rather spend it on something more important hahahaha

I wouldnt say more harm just wasted performance. do some research on your cpu and find out if its overclockable then get a mobo to do it. Cheap ram, cheap ssd for the os, mid range gpu and youll have a solid lil pc!

Hey guys, first post, newb here. i've recently got a pc from a friend who was throwing it away and it's really old but i intend to use it as the structure for a build and i wanna know what should i keep or not, and what is usefull and what it isn't

Spects are:

Intel DG41TY Motherboard

With intel core 2 Quad 2.6Ghz cpu

Coolmaster 600 Power supply

Sapphire Vapor-x Radeonhd 5770 gpu

and a beautiful 2 gigs of ram which i'll obviously upgrade cause it has a really hardtime browing on chrome, which is a ram eat, but still.

anyways, thanks for reading, have a nice day/night/afternoon everyone!

Upgarde the RAM to 8GB if you want to be able to use it at all.

If you want to game on it , up the motherboard to an overclockable one and and OC the CPU to 3.5GHz, and possibly the GPU to a HD 6870.

yeah, i thought so too, the mother board is crap and the gpu cant even run csgo... and man, i mean... csgo needs nothing to run hahahaha

not really, i mean, it has 2 250Gb harddrives, not gonna be the storage queen i was thinking of turning it into an entrylevel, n00b friendly pc while i build a better one and then hand it down to one of my little siblings or sommit lol

I wouldn't bash the Mid-tier 2009 GPU before you look at what it can do 1st, it should handle CS:GO quite well actually.

yes you can throw a mid range GPU like the HD7850 or R9 270 and you can play CS:GO

4GB is the minimum but if you are lucky, you can go up to 8GB of DDR2

hahhaha awesome, i'm not really sure if this card is gonna pull it tho, i'm kinda giving up hopes haha but i read up there in the replies that if i upgraded the motherboard the gpu would do gr8 so i'm guessin with a new board a couple of ram sticks and maybe a Radeon 480? it would run like a decent computer on a budget hahaha after all it was a gift

By radeon 480 you mean rx480? Id say that would bittleneck the fridge outa your cpu. I cant really suggest any amd cards as never owned any but a cheap 750 ti would match pretty nicely. Also whats the windows install like? Fresh install would prolly help too

If there was once a windows 10  installed on this computer, you don't have to buy a new one.

The license is tied to the computers hardware.

Just install the correct version of Windows 10 and connect to the Internet.

You don't need a code.

Ask your friend which version of Windows 10 it was, Home or Pro (32 or 64 bit doesn't matter i believe).

For the rare case it was a N-version, i think you also need a N-version this time but i'm not sure with that.

Old Core 2 systems are far more competent than people give them credit for. A 1.6GHz Core 2 Xeon can be got for about $5. Pair that with a decent motherboard and overclock it to 3.0GHz and you've got a cheap but perfectly useable LAN rig. I paired an e5450 with a 7770 and that thing ran like a champ.
