whats the gpu for me ?

givingtnt

so im getting this epic monitor next week : https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0173PEX20/ref=dp_ob_neva_mobile

(1440p 144hz gsync ips)

and I believe my 780 won't handle gaming on it. (I plan for BF1 at max settings...)

whats the gpu for me ? it has to be reliable af.

I also do content creation w/adobe products.

1440p at 144Hz, with 165Hz available via OC?

I'd have to say 1080 if you plan on doing any real gaming with it.

Aerocool DS are the best fans you've never tried.

nice, the predator monitor. lucky

if you want 1440p 100+ fps high/ultra, you're probably gonna have to go with a 1080, maybe 2 of them. the new titan x is another option, if you're willing to pay $1200. might also get away with 1070s, but it's a stretch

Typically, if you payed X dollars on the monitor, you should pay X dollars for the graphics card to power it. But that's just a pattern and only something I'd recommend. Since it's G-sync, it should be an Nvidia card maybe 980ti, or 1070. You probably won't reach max settings at 144hz unless you double down however.

Blue screens eh? Did you try setting it to Wumbo?

Paul just did a video of the 1060 vs 3440x1440 ultrawide.... It was able to get around the 50-60 fps range with most games on ultra. if you get a single 1080, and turn one or two key settings down i'm sure you could keep pretty close to your refresh rate.

Its not really that hard to run the monitor, but rather its that hard to get to the FPS limit that this monitor can provide. if you run at 60 fps then like i said earlier, a  1060 would be enough for your needs, but if you're only interested in 60 fps, then you shouldn't be getting that monitor.

to be honest, if you have the dough/liquid/racks/green for a 1080, you should probably get a 1080.

what do you suggest for a monitor with more than 60hz, ips, 27" thats not ultrawide ?

I mean, at first I was looking for a 10bit monitor but I just don't have the budget yet.

If you want more than 60 hz, then there is nothing wrong with the monitor you selected. it should perform quite admirably. However, if you want to really take advantage of 144hz at that resolution, and if you don't want to turn down any graphics settings in order to get there, then you're going to need at least a 1080. If you don't mind turning some settings down, then you can buy a much cheaper graphics card. if you play on only high settings (rather than ultra/extreme/max) you could probably just use a 1060 (depending on what CPU you're using of course) and get 140-ish fps. But if you want the most out of your system, then you're going to need the most power you can get. The new titan X-P is coming out, why not just go for that! =)

To answer your question though, what GPU do you need? You need the best GPU you can budget for in order to really take advantage of your monitor. and if you want to play at TRULY maxed settings (including turning on the settings that don't make a lot of sense) on any game and play at your max fps, then you're going to need 2 1080's. Period.

3gb of vram is not going to be enough for battlefield 1 at max settings at that resolution, so a second 780 isn't going to help. My 2 780 ti's are limited by vram now which sucks.

ok, but with a single 1080, will I be able to run any game (mostly) above 60fps with gsync ?  like 75+ ?
