Get Sabertooth or UD5 over formula unless you want it strictly for looks (which is a waste anyway inside of a Phantom.)

H320 is a waste if you're in the states, wait for R9 release if you can. PSU is overkill unless you have plans for crossfire in the future.

Why AMD?

As i have said in my previous threads, i will wait for more information of the upcoming R9 series of GPU's so this is still in the planning stage. I'm even thinking of waiting for Q-2 of 2014 to see if any new A series of processors are released that supposedly have better and stronger cores than the current gen haswell.   \

Why AMD you ask? Well its quite obvious, i currently have an Intel based system, and i feel the need to have an AMD based system, wither way im building this for one of my family members who happens to be waiting for me to complete this build.

let us know how it compares to the intel build. iave had amd and intel builds and for my uses amd is better, i have nvidia and amd cards and i use second hand nvidia cards atm but i feel amd are better.

save money and get a 7950 because its only 5% slower than a 7970, the crosshair 5 is awesome if you have the cash 9i want one but dont have said cash), otherwise the gigabyte ud3 is good for £100 nearly half the price, the ud5 is a good compromise and the ud7 is good if you just want black bossness but dont care about asus's (much better) software, ive researched the hell trying to decide for myself.....im going second hand lga 2011 eventually because i cant make up my mind (again for my use case, bit of gaming bit of editing).

save money and get a 8320 aswell, you wont need to overclock beyond 4.2-4.4 (the benefits are minimal in most scenarious when compared to other options).

just stick a 3tb drive in it with an ssd, maybe corsair to match the power supply (samsung are good but they dont age as well in the LOOONGG run, source:livestream)

ive "said" it before about phantoms and ill say it again

phantom

they look like they've been kicked in the face and have more plastic than they should (on the roof for instance) to make them look....differnt

i dont know how much the phantom is but something like a xigmatek elysium or corsair or the like would be better, that said i have a full tower and they are rapidly going out of fashion, you can fit a fullsize build with a 240/280 radiator in the roof of most decent mid sized cases, what about a 330r (very nice), 500r, 550D or 750D.

im a buildaholic too (prefer building and speccing pcs more than using them) best of luck and enjoy the build bud :D

I don't actually care about the start up or write speeds of any SSD, i'm going to wait as long as 1tb goes under $300, and yes i can install my core applications on the SSD and install my games on my HDD. this is the thing that i dont really care about at this point.

Thank you very much, iv actually received some donations from my family member to buy some color coordinated components but i will still use this as a guideline for my build!!!

I totally agree with what you have said, i actually enjoy building rather than using. i will be using these two machines interchangeably to see the performance difference in real world applications. I'm currently trying to get in touch with some companies to help me get the parts for cheaper prices. it will take me a little while. xD

i wanted the phantom because it has all the fan mounting options that weren't over kill for the price, the 650D only has some of the mounting options and the 750d has aluminum, i do actually want to touch my cause every once in a while ;). Other than that please give me a suggestion on what case supports the following:

- two 140mm in the front

- three 120mm in the top

- one 140mm in the back

- has a nice window WITHOUT FAN HOLES

- looks sexy

- has some fan control options (if avaliable)

I take it youre water cooling (theres no reason to have that many fans otherwise)

I dont know of any (though i will look), and if by some miracle you found 1 that had that exact configuration chances are theres something else wrong with it, itll be b*****d expensive or have poor cable mounting or itll be steel (just because its aluminium doesnt mean its a problem, its brushed aluminium that really etches, atleast it doesnt rust and is light etc, theres a reason its used in cars/planes).

the 750d is perfect for that config, i think @heineygoat has one of the nicest builds ive seen in a long time, and im not exactly a fan of expensive cases (or his avatar) but it is awesome with everything you want (window, fan config), otherwise your going to be dong your own window mods and getting the dremel out bud. just consider it and give him a chat.
