The Titan X Pascal is a dumb ass card I'm tired of hearing about. It's meant for professional use not gaming.

The Titan X is mostly pointless for professional use, it doesn't have the FP64 performance or HBM2 memory that would have separated it from standard gaming cards. It's just an overpriced gaming flagship.

im just looking at reviews and as good as the 1080's are, I'm very surprised 4k @60fps still isn't a thing, I just want to play something like ROTTR max graphics and sampling at 4k with at least 60 fps which the 1080 apparently cant do... is that too unreasonable to ask?

supersampling for 4k? i don't think you can eliminate any more aliasing at that point..

the new titan x may very well deliver 4k 60fps. but the price is off-putting

If pascal turns out to be anything like Haswell, as far as gaming is concerned the Titan XP is just an early adopter 1080ti at a higher price. You'll get much better performance than a 1080, but about the same, if not worse than the 1080ti.

The only reason you'd regret the Titan X is if you are on a budget. It's a flagship card.

Minus the whole, "980ti was just as fast at 3/4 the cost" thing doesn't matter. But yea! Flagship!

4K is 4 times as many pixel as 1080p. The first GPU that can run 1080p well is 680/770. You expect Nvidia can improve its GPU power 4 fold in couples of years?

Honestly the Titan X was always a stupid card,  including the Maxwell Card.  Unless you were planning on doing 2-way sli with Titan X's.  2 980s would have given much better performance for the same price.

If you can afford it, comfortably, get it. If I could just drop $1200 dollars right now like its nothin, I'd get it in a heartbeat. Unfortunately, I have to save to get such things. If its within your means, and you don't have to eat green eggs and ham for the next 6 months to get it, then by all means treat yourself. Just don't be one of those people who gets pissed off at nVidia after releasing a Ti card that's a slightly cut down core for $300 less 3 months later. The Titan is a koth card with a koth price. It won't and will never make sense for 99% of gamers. But if someone has the budget for one, I won't blame them because I'd do the same.

Nice, so anyone who doesn't do what you do doesn't have brains... What's the rent like on that glass house?

Its pretty fine, since I don't throw stones.

The titan doesnt support professional applications like the first few generations did, which people could then write the card for professional uses such as rendering. Since nvidia no longer has those features though on the titan, it can only be classified as a high-end gaming card, and since the 1080ti will undoubtly perform better, and overclock better, while costing less, it makes 0 sense to buy a titan. Just like the titan x.

I take that back actually, there is a reason to buy the titan xp, if you have more money than brains, don't want the card that performs exactly the same, if not better for a far lower price, and simply want the ability to brag and say you have an 1100$ video card, that has almost no use outside of gaming.

Its the same situation with the 6950x from intel, there are better options for a lower price. The only reason to buy it is quite literally bragging rights.

Hold out for the 1080 Ti that's guaranteed to come out, or get a 1080.

I am not certain if we will see a 1080 Ti. Now, correct me if I am wrong, but the Titan XP has been said to be "up to" 60% faster than the previous Titan X from Nvidia themselves. Now, the Titan X is currently 25-30% slower than the GTX 1080. If that is true, the Titan XP is only "up to" 25-30% faster than the GTX 1080. There is not much room at all to fit a card in between the two. Let alone one that won't completely destroy the value of the Titan XP (like the 980 Ti did for the Titan X).

Not to mention, the Titan XP only has 12GB of VRAM. I am unaware if they have to follow the rules of cutting the ram count in half or not, but if they do, that means they have to cut down to 6GB. They cant do that, as it would make the 1080, with its 8GB of ram, look better on paper to the average consumer that thinks VRAM = gaming performance. If they don't cut it down, and leave it at 12GB, it might not differentiate the Titan XP far enough from the 1080 Ti to have decent sales.

I just do not know how a 1080 Ti can exist. Not with the way they positioned this new Titan XP. If we do see cutdown GP102, it might be in a mobile form. I do hope I am wrong though, as I would love to see a card stronger than the 1080, but cheaper than the Titan XP.

We'll see. Considering the 780 Ti and 980 Ti, it's likely a 1080 Ti would happen. If it doesn't though, it would kinda shock me.

But considering how Nvidia's positioning it, maybe there won't be some sort of stopgap?

My bet is a Titan P Q1 to answer Vega carrying HBM2 and a 1080ti cut down from that.

Oh, and 44Tflops of half precision. I was told to say that.

1080ti will very likely match that performance or get damn close for a significantly lower price.

And once again, half precision is meaningless for professional applications. Trying to render anything that requires precision for say, simulation, will end badly.

The difference in precision is massive.

DFP being 1.0000000000000002 being the next step up from 1.

1/2FP being 1.0009765625 being the next step up from 1.

That may not seem like a lot to you, but 1/2fp is almsot entirely useless in professional applications that require real precision.

Perhaps my point isnt getting through, because the titan xp does NOT support professional applications, its only merrit becomes gaming. And as far as gaming goes, it will likely perform no better than an after market 1080ti, which will cost FAR less. That being the case, there is no reason for people to buy the titan xp, unless... you have more money than reason and just want bragging rights.
