so if I so much as have a stable overclock as a saved profile in afterburner (even if its not enabled) it breaks my 290x's driver and I have to ddu it then reinstall the driver and get rid of the profile for it to work again. any idea why? I iknow this oc is 100% stable...

Clearly it is no longer 100% stable

doesn't that mean it's not stable? I have a 390x which is very similar. OC'ing is extremely easy with afterburner. You shouldn't have to jump through any hoops to get it working.

definitely your memory clock. the only time I've had issues starting into windows with my 290 was when my memory clock was too high. do you know if your gpu has elpida or hynix memory?

To run stable is to be able to run furmark  at native resolution at native refresh rates with dynamic camera and post fx enabled. If it survives that for more than 10 minutes, nothing will crash it. Things like unigene benchmarks or other benchmarks are nothing. Its okay to see artifacts no bigger than 3 pixels btw, cause furmark pushes 105%

Blue screens eh? Did you try setting it to Wumbo?
