You're running it off the hard drive. It's probably not right spec so just wipe it with DBAN (dban.org) and install it from usb

Welp, that's a fully capable system... it could even run W10

OK, first of all check that the OS install image isn't corrupted. Then try back USB. Also I asked USB or DVD because some manufacturers lock USB boot capabilites (IDK why tho)

If your install atempt was just swapping HDD... then check If you were running SATA under AHCI or Legacy on the previous system, though I don't guarantee that It'll work... you're swapping drives from a different computer that requires different drivers

Wont usb boot does that

Sorry but I don't understand what you're trying to say...

With those settings it'd be able to boot from USB, as an extra safety point, make sure you're plugging the drive in the rear ports.

Care to explain how did you "burn" the image in the drive?

yeah it should boot of that usb but won't even with the way it's set up now

What's the position of that jumper in the MB?

Also is there any header marked as "WP", "Write Protect" or similar?

Ok, turn of and unplug the PC, then change the jumper position, plug power cable and turn on again.

It'll start under maintenance mode, choose to clear passwords.

Exit saving changes, turn off, unplug and put back to original position.

did that still won't detect os

Did you even install it in THAT PC?

If not (or the install was performed in a different PC) and you're trying to boot from USB, first check that it's a properly made installation media. For that plug that USB drive in a different PC and if it can't boot aswell then you need to burn the disk image again: for ubuntu burn the iso with rufus

i downloaded it on another pc and copied it to the usb also copied it to the hdd

How did you copy it to the USB, and what do you mean by "also copied to the HDD"? Did you copy some files to the HDD o.O?

Well, that's not how it works.

OK, wait a moment I'll tell you how to set the USB  drive to be an ubuntu installer

@masterkickass7

Welp, Ubuntu's guide use rufus too, so close enough

If you don't want to wait, here's ubuntu's guide: http://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop/create-a-usb-stick-on-windows

Ubuntu iso: http://releases.ubuntu.com/16.04.1/ubuntu-16.04.1-desktop-amd64.iso

Rufus: https://rufus.akeo.ie/downloads/rufus-2.10.exe

thanks just learned something new to this
