A good OS for media PC?

I was wondering what OS should I use for a media PC.

My plan is to store movies and such on a NAS and use a media pc to steam media to my devices.

The NAS will be running FreeNAS.

For the media PC I am putting together a richland mini-itx system.

Also I would prefer the the media OS to be free.

doesn't matter. all mainstream OS will do that job
