So I just installed windows, and it says that my product key isn't valid. This product key is the one that my laptop has, so shouldn't it be a valid product key? (the laptop product key is literally used for reinstalling windows on the laptop just in case)

no, those are OEM ones. OEM ones only work on your laptop.

You need to get a retail one or a OEM one for your desktop.

Let me get this right. You installed windows on anouter system and used your laptops key. You can't use one key on 2 systems.

 

If this is your laptop, you have to call microsoft.

since you reinstalled to your laptop and used the key, try calling microsoft, worst case scenario they'll say OEM key issues, talk to your administrator *Translation: we don't care F off* in which case you're need a new license key, and for that I'd recommend kinguin or the microsoft os  subreddit
