I am currently building a new gaming pc, and I am having a hard time buying windows 10,

basically I don't like microsoft, and I am not willing to pay 200+ for windows, I have seen a couple of sites selling windows 10 for dirt cheap, while amazon sells windows pro 10 for about 130. The sites I found are probably bogus, but despite my hatred to microsoft, I would still like to get windows 10 for as little money as possible for gaming.

I also was wondering if buying windows 7 pro before the 29th, and then upgrading to windows 10 pro would be cheaper

I only want it to be genuine,

Anyway suggestions would be appreciated

You can try here https://www.reddit.com/r/microsoftsoftwareswap/ for cheap keys. It is a grey market and you can potentially get burned but most people claim success with this. Even if you do get burned 3 times its still much cheaper than buying directly from Microsoft. YMMV tho.

When in doubt, re-format.

Sites like G2A would be a good place to get a key for something like Windows 7 retail, then upgrade that to get a Windows 10 license before the 29th.

Oh no look out it's the internet decency police! Seriously, think about the kind of answer the OP is looking for. Obviously he doesn't want Linux or OS X because they don't support most games.

I really hate Microsoft as well and would rather avoid supporting them if possible. Microsoft doesn't really need my money anyway considering BIll Gates is (or was?) the richest man in the world. You don't have to buy a license to use Windows 10. If you can obtain an ISO you can use it all you want just without the ability to change certain cosmetic features (you CAN still change the wallpaper by right clicking an image and clicking set to desktop background).

You might need a product key to download an ISO from the Microsoft website. In that case, just Google "Windows 10 generic product key".

I removed the part of the post which involved piracy, I did read the rules before posting, I must've missed that part, I know the linus tech tips community is pretty wise and knowledgeable, and so I wish for this small amount of drama to end, thanks for your advice

I like how you try to speak to me as if you are above me and I am some sort of peasant when in reality we are equals. How cute. In case you didn't notice, I ALSO provided a legal method of obtaining Windows. There was nothing I said that broke the guidelines for talking about piracy.

Try again next time.

You're the only one implying we are not equals in this thread.
