i would transfer the SSD Win10 is installed on. Microsoft transfers keys?

Windows 10 is activated with your motherboard and if that changes it will deactivate itself. Sometimes they will transfer keys but I've had little success with it in the past.

Yeah it would not be activated, but you might be able to call microsoft and tell them that "I changed my motherboard" and they can reactivate it for you.

btw you don't need to install windows 7 then upgrade to 10, you can just install windows 10 directly and activate it with the 7 key.

So yeah what Enderman said ^

Hello,

I'll buy a new PC in the near future, but the free upgrade ends friday. Would it be possible to just buy a SSD now, install Windows 7 on it using my current PC (got a Win 7 key), upgrade to Win 10 and then take the SSD and plug it into my new PC? Or will windows then tell me, that it's not activated? (a friend bought a new Mobo and that happend to him). Will it even work without the correct drivers?

If you change the motherboard/whole pc the free "upgrade" will probably not transfer. You might be able to get Microsoft to transfer the key but I wouldn't count on it.
