Dear PC gamers,

After about 2 years of gaming on a rig that was build by a friend of mine, I was thinking of upgrading it with a new GPU and CPU.

The only problem that I am having right now is that I am not very hard ware savvy, so I have no idea which CPU to buy!

The GPU I was thinking of buying is the new MSI GeForce GTX 1070 Gaming X 8G because it is in my price range of about 500 Euros of the 800 Euros I currently have.

So now I am still left with the question of what CPU to buy that will suffice for my gaming needs, or maybe I don't have to upgrade my CPU at all. I really have no idea.

Most of the games I play are very CPU intensive, like DayZ Standalone, H1Z1 King of The Kill and Arma III but I feel like my current CPU might severly bottleneck the 1070 I am planning on buying.

So I was hoping you guys here on the LinusTechTips Forum could help me out with picking a new CPU or advise me to keep the one I have?

(Extra info- The CPU Price range can vary from 200 to 300 Euros which I will have left after buying the GPU)

My specs are linked!

Heey Trevor, I do already have the AMD FX-8350 Eight-Core Processor.

Won't the CPU you suggested me be a downgrade?

Yes it would be a down grade. If you have that CPU I would rather just get a the GTX 1070 and save the money and move over to a intel build later on if AMD new rang of CPU  they are releasing soon are not that good.

Thank you so much for your advise!

Would you recommend any Intel CPU between 200 and 300 Euros which I should buy if I would still want to?

I would think that the 8350 would. Looking at comparison videos online(i7-4790k), it would be worse.

Yes you are right but to upgrade  CPU that will not hold back the card will blow his budget it would make seance to wait a year or two to upgrade his PC. I have never heard such nonce about bottle neck so much confusion lol about 1070.
