Hi, I currently have a GTX 680 and I am looking to upgrade to something preferably around $300 I have been concisering the RX 480, R9 390, and the GTX 1060. I am open to any ideas. I am hoping to run the Ashes of the Singularity benchmark (only one I have) say 40fps with max settings. I have a 5820k and 32gb vengeance LPX RAM

The GTX 1060 is the fastest card out of the ones you listed, but I am not sure if it is under or around $300 since it has only been out for about half a day now.

The RX 480 is very good value, the RX 480 and GTX 1060 are not in the same price range, the RX 480 is a R9 390/GTX 970 replacement, the GTX 1060 is GTX 980 or R9 Nano Replacement.

Also the GTX 1060 is out of stock at most stores so you will probably have a hard time looking for one.

For Ashes of the Singularity solely, the RX 480 has a slight edge over the GTX 1060. If we're considering the broader spectrum of games now, the GTX 1060 will be faster.

Are you considering to sell your gtx 680? If you sell that for $150 you can have 450 to buy a 1070. But if you want the cheaper solutions, 1060 or 480 are good.

I will not be selling it because a friend gave it to me and I told him I would give it back when I upgrade so he can sell it, I think I will go with the 1060 because I only listed Ashes of the Singularity because it has a benchmark not because I play it a lot. Thank you all for your input I really appreciate it :)

The 1060 is a solid option. Just note why you're buying any of the cards and that will be your reason for picking one over the other. The 1060 does things the 480 can't and vice versa. For example if your monitor is freesync or gsync (or if you plan on buying one), or if you'd like the option to buy another for crossfire/sli in the future, or the games you play benefit from dx12/vulkan or gameworks.

It's good to have evenly matched cards with quality options on both sides though. There is no clear winner which means everybody wins. :D

1060 cannot SLi.

Stop mocking the coolers, it's a 130w card.

It's faster than RX 480 across the board besides Hitman and DX12, GTX 1060 loses to RX 480 by 1 FPS in Ashes.

I know someone said this already, but you cannot SLI a 1060. They removed the sli fingers from the pcb, so multi gpu will only be in a few titles that support the dx 12 feature.

I think that I will stick with the 680 for now and wait on a new GPU when the higher end ones start to drop in price.

Don't plan on that being for 6 months at least, probably more.
