What is Burger?

My friend and I got into an argument on what a burger is.  I say a burger is the whole sandwich... He says the burger is just the patty (seriously wtf).

A burger in the concept of a ground beef patty placed between two separate holding items, most commonly bread.

its a weak definition, but it is what it is.

 

A burger is definitely not just the patty though. If you had a meal that was just the patty with or without cheese on it, that's actually called something else entirely. Look up hamburger steak, that's pretty much what it is. A burger though is a sandwich, the patty is a burger patty.

I refer to both the whole sandwich and the patty as "burger" depending on the context.

As someone who raises cattle for a living to me the patty is just ground beef while a burger is the whole package
