What is your set-up? Are you using shadowplay/fraps or proper capture card?

Its a Laptop. I use XSplit. My CPU and GPU are not very powerful though, @ 1.70GHz and 975MHz respectively

Well you just answered your own question. The fact that you're even getting playable framerates while recording with software is pretty surprising to me.

When in doubt, re-format.

You can lower your bit rate, that will help.

@pwn_intended

Does that mean I need to lower the resolution?

Can you explain what is the difference between Quality, and resolution?

Also what is Codec?

Thanks!

Quality is gonna dictate the bitrate. Basically how much compression is used. Lower quality means more artifacts. Resolution is the size (in pixels) of the video.

What are your actual computer specs (what cpu/gpu do you have, not just the clock speeds)

When in doubt, re-format.

Yea, you're not gonna have a good time recording gameplay with software while using the computer for gaming. As I said earlier, the fact that you are even able to play at a decent framerate while doing that is surprising.

Lowering the resolution and quality may help a little bit, but then it will look like crap and no one is going to want to watch it.

What I would recommend is play around with all the settings and see what looks best for you.

When in doubt, re-format.

Okay, I'll check with different settings!

And what is Codec?

There I have 2 options -

1) Intel QuickSync (Uses iGPU)

2) x264 (Uses CPU)

A codec is essentially the "type of compression". That is a really basic explanation, and if you really care to get into it, that is a looong research hole to get into. I would try the quick sync as it will use the iGPU of your cpu which isn't being used at all right now due to the fact that you have discrete gpu. Again though, play around with the settings to see what works best.

When in doubt, re-format.
