So i plan to buy a new case and psu (corsair 600c and corsair RM650x) to put my current system in because i cant buy all the parts in one go and i cant save up that amount of money so im going this route.

so my noob question is, will there be a problem if i put in a lets say gtx 1070 in the build with the new case and psu? my system specs are listed below

thanks to who ever answers my question and have a nice day!

CPU: Intel Core i3-3220 3.3GHz Mother Board: ASUS P8B75-M LE GPU: PowerColor Radeon HD 7770 GHz Edition RAM: Kingston 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1333 Case: Fractal Design Core 1000 Storage: Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB PSU: Thermaltake LT-500NL2NL 500W

that i3 is gonna be pretty laughable with the 1070 in the majority of titles, but it certainly wont make your system slower or catch fire :P

if i get this right.. this is your plan:

- system as is now

- replace case and power supply

- 1070

- new everything else at some point.

righto?

Yes, your CPU will bottleneck.

that said, is that a problem tho? i mean, he's implying that the i3 will be out the door at some point as well, and a cpu bottleneck wont magically make your pc slower than it was with a gpu slow enough to not bottleneck.

It's not worth getting that GPU with an i3, unless he's upgrading soon. He could get the same performance with a cheaper GPU due to the i3 bottlenecking the 1070.

the worst that can happen is that it's necked to hell now, and when he gets a new cpu, suddenly this happens:

i saw jayz video on the whole bottlenecking problem ang he shows that its not that drastic

well, bottlenecking is a thing that occurs, it is very defenately a real thing.

however, as jayztwocents explains in the video you're referring to is that it's not as big of a deal as the internet makes of it.

actually, funny story, on my old gaming rig vsync was broken, and my GPU would basicly ramp up until it tore itself apart, so i purposely made things "bottleneck" on the cpu to make sure my gpu wouldnt selfdestruct each gaming session :P

Your I3 will heavily bottleneck your gtx 1070. Go onto gumtree, ebay or craiglist and get a sandy bridge i5. Problem solved

what if i buy a some what cheaper gpu for the mean time like and r7 370 will that be bottle necked by my i3 or will it be just fine ?

if anything i'd suggest getting a new cpu/mobo(/ram) first, and truck on with your 7770 for a while longer and go straight for a decent gpu instead of going for a stopgap gpu which'll basicly be a waste of money in the end.

Don't. You can use your i3 with your 1070, but when you get a sandy bridge i5 you will unlock a lot of performance.

I built a PC for my friend a while back with a xeon x5450 (lga 775) and a radeon hd 7970. He was getting about 30fps on ultra, but when he upgraded to a x58 xeon, he was getting about 60-80 fps on the same settings.

Nothing bad will happen if you bottleneck your 1070. It simply means it is being temporarily held back.
