Dead serious. I just want content consumption with zero lag no matter what is open (etc. I want chrome to be snappy AF even when CS:GO is open) What is more important, numerous cores or very good clock speed? Had a 2600K at 4.5 GHz and it wasn't superb, so I upgraded to a 14 core behemoth (obviously not exclusively for chrome) but the experience could be better, specifically on Inbox by gmail...

Anyways, what's better to invest in? Cores or clock speed? This one is at 2.5 GHz so it's not super, and the i7 had good clock speed but lacking in cores. Maybe a 5820K or something?

A good installation and none/ the right addons are worth more than a CPU. I have an i7 3770k at 4.6GHz that for some reasons decicedes to lag on twitch stream when it has to display at a res that is not 1280x720.
But my phone does it fdine smoothly ...

16GB, never seen over 6GB used though. I don't have a billion tabs, I just want the tabs to be as snappy as possible (plus a bunch of applications being open at the same time, as well)

I know ram speed usually is irrelevant, but would it help at all for multitasking? 2400Mhz should be sufficient I assume

Try both. Maybe an i3-6100?

I can spend quite a bit more than that if it's worth it, has to be X99 too.

Something with high single core performance, any Skylake chip is okay.

How is Haswell IPC vs Skylake? Might go 6800K over 5820K if it's that much better
