Functionally matx is more than enough.

 

If you're using a windowed case or something, for looks I wouldn't choose matx: there's just not enough matx cases anymore. It's fucking stupid but matx boards are still sold in large numbers to perpetually look small and stupid on atx size cases so just get either mitx or atx if you care about looks.

No. There're PCIe SSDs and such but those are ridiculously expensive.

There are sata addon cards, raid cards, sound, graphics, network, wifi, video capture, and a lot more that expand the functions of your computer.
