hi. i have i7 4770K and Maximus VI Hero.

so i have read a lot lately about overclocking 4770K. i guess im ready to overclock now. but just wanted a quick advise if i am going right ways.

as to what i have found about haswell, u first need to know about ur chip. where it sits in terms of its overclockability (if that is a word) :P

first i need to go to bios, go to the cpu multiplier and raise it to 46 with sync all cores.

then i need to go down to the cpu core voltage and set that to 1.2V.

then save settings and boot. if my system posts to UEFI and then to Windows my chip is in the top 50%. if not then i need to up the voltage to say 1.25 or 1.3v to get the stability.

are these the steps i should follow for just a quick dirty overclock (as Linus said in his guide)???

am i going right? or should i also do something else?

guys i need ur help i dont have any experience of overclocking and i m doing this goofy thing here asking for ur help.

i will be overclocking with u guys and telling u what happens after doing it. it might also be helpful for some guys who dont know how to overclock here (which im sure there will be no one stupid like me) :(

so pls advise

thanks

4.6 is very ambitious to start out with on a 4770k.

Start out at x42 @ 1.25v and slowly start moving it up from there. I've had a handful of 4770k's to play with for my personal rig and this is what I would recommend.

Once you hit 4.4ghz I would recommend to also start a stress test and to monitor your temps with Aida64 and Intel® Extreme Tuning Utility (Intel® XTU)

Please do read the thread @ http://www.overclock.net/t/1411077/haswell-overclocking-thread-with-statistics before you do attempt to OC.

This thread has a lot of information on OC'ing a Haswell chip and will benefit you greatly.

Not sure if this will help. It is for the 3770k. But it also works for the 4770k.

As said above 4.6 is very ambitious to start with. Try something more along the lines of 4.4GHz also remember with Haswell for the best performance you will need to adjust the ring bus up to compensate for the raised core clock speed.

4.6 to start?

lol most 4770 ive seen wont go past 4.4

lol well i have tried just once and i got 4.5Ghz  @ 1.32V. i ran aida64 system stability test for about 2 hours and didnt get any instability. max core temp was 89C. does that mean my chip is ok?
