I purchased a refurbished SSD from NewEgg, but upon installing it and updating the firmware the health dropped from 100% to 89%, and the benchmark tool stated it only did 112 mb/s on an empty drive...1/5 of the drives quoted speed.

I filed for an RMA, stating it was defective.

They sent me the RMA number, shipping label, etc.

My question:

Is the return guaranteed, since I've been supplied with the items above?
Or do they test it and then decide if they'll refund me?

I'm already not a huge fan of NewEgg policies with a shipping issue I had on the same drive.

They'll probably do an initial assessment for obvious signs of trouble before refunding you, but as long as you can package it up the same way you got it, it should just go through.

If it was refurbished, even though it had use on it, it still should function like new, so they will most likely accept it.

Yeah that's kind of what I figure as well. But I also figured when it was supposedly lost in shipment (it was over a week past the due date, and the tracking didn't update past the drop off in Toronto) they'd ship a new one immediately. Instead they wanted me to wait 10 business days while they completed their claim with Purolator.

I'd even be fine with the disgustingly slow write speeds if the health was better. *sigh*

Hello dizmo,

The other commentors on this thread are pointing you in the right direction! When we receive an RMA'd item, we test it to see if it is still able to function or if it needs to be repaired and send it to the vendor/manufacturer depending on how it tests out. As long as you've returned the SSD with everything (retail box, accessories/manuals, etc.) and it is not damaged, you shouldn't run into any issues with the return being accepted. If you'd like us to take a look to double check, please send an email to wecare@newegg.com with your order or RMA number and reference this thread.

Hope this helps! :)
