Hi!  This may be somewhat lengthy, so I will put this in sections.

Before this...

About a year (12 & 1/2 months) ago, I bought a new Asus desktop computer for $800.  It was the M32-BC.  I figured it was going to be pretty good, because of the reputable brand and fairly high price.  Hahahahaha... nope!  Anyway, I quickly researched computers more, and around then I found LTT and some other YouTubers from which I learned a lot.  By the end of the summer, I was very knowledgeable about computer building, etc, and I regretted my purchase.  My friend bought an iBuyPower computer for the same price (great deal btw).

Fast forward to today...

My computer is still decent, though not very good for the price.  CS:GO and GTA V stutter a lot, and I can't come close to maxing out the settings.  Upgrading the GPU is out of the picture, I'm not too keen on rewiring as my psu us only 300w.

So, I will probably do this:

- Sell the computer, but keep the hard drive, that will save me from getting an OS and transferring things.

- Build myself a new computer with the gained money and some extra.

To do that, I need to know how much I can expect for my current machine to determine my budget.  Specs:

Good condition overall, "like-new"

AMD FX 8310

8GB Dual channel Kingston RAM

AMD Radeon R7 240

300W Generic psu

Dvd-RW drive

Support for multiple audio outputs

8 USB ports (4x 3.0)

**Hard drive will be removed**

 Thanks!

Unless the operating system installed is retail version you cannot move it to a new motherboard.  Since you said this is a prebuilt computer it is almost definitely an OEM version and forever tied to that computer.  If you include the hard drive and OS, you should be able to get 300-350.  Remove the hard drive and os and subtract at least 150 ish because the buyer would need to get those.

There's something cool here - you just can't see it.

The model is a year old, I bought it for $800.  You're saying it depreciated by over 50% in the first year?  Also, could I just switch it to a diff copy of Windows 10?  A non-OEM copy?  That would still save my stuff :)

The PC was never worth $800, that is why it isn't worth much today. You could get $200 probably.

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

Memory: PNY Anarchy 8GB (1 x 8GB) DDR3-1600 Memory  ($24.99 @ Amazon)
Storage: Hitachi Deskstar 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive  ($43.95 @ Amazon)

Optical Drive: Asus DRW-24F1ST DVD/CD Writer  ($13.99 @ Newegg)
Total: $334.88

As for Windows 10, you should probably leave the HDD in the PC as it will increase the selling price and buy a new W10 from G2A or Reddit for about $20. This is a full retail copy, just without the premium price.

You're assessment is wrong.  The RAM is Kingston dual channel 2x4GB (No heatspreader, blue PCB).  Being Kingston instead of PNY will add some.  It's a Toshiba 2TB HDD, not Hitachi Deskstar 1TB.  7200RPM is right though.  My harddrive isn't from some generic (Japanese?) brand that makes excavators.  The case looks more like this.  The PSU brand is AcBel 300W.  I understnad you're trying to give an estimate, and thank you, but try again with the correct parts - not that you could've known, you're assuming based on guess-work and *not* reading the original post and without looking anything up.

he can't make an estimate with the correct parts; the case, exact kit of ram and fx 8310 is not sold anywhere. the ram won't make any price difference unless the brand is truly terrible, ram mostly performs the same nowadays. there is no acbel anywhere in pcpartpicker, and i doubt they would sell an OEM unit to retailers. if you want others to help you, be more polite, not attacking us because we can't get every tiny detail 100% right.

as you said, you're not including the hdd which would make the price drop even more. so if someone goes and gets a pc similar to yours he would likely get this, which is only around $300. since your parts are well used, you'll have to sell it for even less. $250 is the max i'll personally go with your rig.
