If you have a way to get the sound to your headphones then it can come from anything, you choose what sound device the Vive uses and it can be anything you like. But just bare in mind running an additional cable is going to be a nightmare and if you use the 3.5mm jack its using the Vive supplied sound card.

 

The other option if you want sbx or Dolby headphone is to usewireless headphones.
