My specs are I5 4440, 16GB DDR3 1333MHz, B85 motherboard and a 1070 FE. i game with a Dell P2416D @1440P 75Hz and this card is perfect for that. except for in battlefield 4 where my cpu really holds back my GPU,

So i am planning to perhaps upgrade to something good so i can get rocking a few more years.

I am planning to go for a 6600K or 6700K With a ASRock Fatal1ty Z170 Gaming K4 and a 2x8 DDR4 2666MHZ Corsair White LPX.

Now i got some questions regarding the perhaps upgrade. Is it smart to spend now this much money or wait for anything that is comming new to the market?

i do not game really alot since i dont know which games to actually play :(. The only game currently i have issues with is BF4. so is it worth the upgrade?

still if it is not worth it it still bothers me that i have a crappy i5 4440 with a 1070

Btw here a video made by me. the FPS is a bit higher but not much, (not 75+ steady) the stuttering is due the 100% cpu usage.

saw video's of 1070 bf4 ultra with 4x msaa gettign easy 75+ steady but im not even getting that without x4 msaa.

7700k isnt going to come for a while, so 6700k is the best CPU right now.

Maybe look for someone selling BNIB used or something, or wait for a sale.

Hmm so i was thinking my self what if i do buy a 6700k wont there be a better cpu sooner that i will regret rather than waiting 2 months?

What are the exception regarding new cpu's ?

I would go for an i7-4790 or an i7-4790k (k if you're going to overclock it) instead of spending even more money on new parts and the 6600k/6700k. The i7-6700k only outperforms the i7-4790k within a 10% margin.

The problem is i got a I5 4440 and if i do upgrade to a non-k 4790 i cant oc. so if i get a 4790k i cant OC it since im on a B85 chipset. meaning i need a Z96 motherboard. so why not spend just a little more for DDR4 ram and get skylake since the i7 skylake is like cheaper than the 4790k.

The 7700k isnt coming out for at least another 6 months, probably closer to a year.

ANd it will be a marginal improvement over the 6700k, so the 6700k will still be great 5 years from now

I'm using the dark theme so I didn't notice the text. As for the "better" CPU, getting a 6700K over a 6600K won't be much of a difference once you have to upgrade. I'd get the Skylake platform's motherboard and a relatively good CPU if you're wanting to upgrade later.

If you can find someone that's selling a 4690 or 4790 (non-K) it'd be worth it since those chips still have 2+ years until they start showing any aging.

I would do research and see

A) Can I get a 4690/4790 for less? or

B) Can I get Skylake mobo and CPU for less?

 Do the research, check the LTT classifieds, Craigslist, eBay, and THEN make the decision.

Just make sure you're getting the better deal and don't let futureproofness be a concern since LGA 1150 is still good for 2+ years while Skylake has 5+.

THanks again for your support guys!

Well i think the 4690/4790 may do the job but im not sure for how long. also im not liking it to buy used items from craigslist or w/e. i have a really good local computer hardware shop here and i know the trouble of having not warranty. while with warranty i just gave them my card back and i could get full retail price back or get the same card or upgrade + i top up ofcourse.

well in the past i was concerned if i had issues but now idgaf because #warranty.

But uuhm if i want to stay at 4th gen i dont wanta  4790 but a 4790k. so that means out with the B85 and in with a Z97. in my opinion if i am already chaning cpu+mobo why not CPu+mobo+ram to Skylake.

Get my point?

If you're wanting the K-series CPU, going to Skylake is the better score. Just do research (I heard a user say that the 6800K is slower in some cases against the 6700K).

I vote buying this: https://pcpartpicker.com/product/psR48d/intel-cpu-bx80646e31231v3

If you're wondering: it's an i7-4770 with no iGPU. Trust me, this CPU will last you in new games for a long time. You're spending ~$230 for a CPU that will prolong spending $500 or so for another 3 years (theoretically.) FPS-wise, it won't be more than 5 FPS or so that you're missing compared to the 6700k, and even less for most games.

The 6800k is Broadwell-E, and I do not recommend buying Broadwell-E over Haswell-E.

Well i made 3 carts.

1= 6600k(LGa1151), ASRock Z170 K4, 2x8GB DDR4 2666MHz
2= 6700k(LGA1151), ASRock Z170 K4, 2x8GB DDR4 2666MHz
3= 5820K(LGA2011-3), ASRock X99 Extreme 4/3.1, 2x8GB DDR4 2666MHz

My preffer goes to the number 2. Number 3 cost to much and i dont feel like upgrading from a 4440 to a 6600k.

Does it make sense to go for option 2 while having a GTX 1070.

How long will this setup be enough for 1440P @75hz ultra gaming>?

Yes, it does make sense to go for option 2 if you're getting a GTX 1070. The 1070 is about the performance of a 980ti. The 6600k can handle the 1070 just fine, but if you have the money, the 6700k will last longer.

About the 1440p thing- no idea. Probably a long time. The thing is- if it's good at 1440p gaming now, it'll be good at 1440p gaming down the road. On Ultra? maybe 2-3 years. That's because, as games evolve, (for some reason) they start requiring more resources for the same resolution. My 7970 does great on Battlefield 4 at 1080p highest settings, but a little less good on newer titles at 1080p highest settings. The 1070 will last a long time- by the time you're upgrading it, you'll probably have a higher resolution monitor than 1440p.

In fact i already have te 1070 for like 2-3 weeks i guess. the problem is that my i5 4440 is holding my gpu alot back in bf4. gpu usage like 40-60% and way to low FPS (unplayable to un steady)

Yeah, I watched the video. Getting a better CPU is going to alleviate that, as you already know.
