Not trying to bag you on it, you just a bit of a soft spot in the forums CS, and had to tread somewhat lightly around it.

Either way, what you're going to be looking at, especially for executing a similar or the same command many times over on a particular series of files withing a directory, is definitely going to be a batch file for simplicity.

If you want to get an idea of what you'd have to do, you can take a look here; They've got some decent sources and at least outline the beginnings of what you should know before hand, as well as the materials you should need to get started knowing how to work with batch files; as opposed to someone just copy/pasting a code that they've already made for you to write into a batch file of your own. http://www.robvanderwoude.com/batchstart.php

When you want your computer to do specific tasks, like in a browser, or with your file explorer.

For example, lets say I have a manga reader from a site, and I want to download all the pages from each individual URL, but don't want to have to go about from page 1 to 100. What's it called, or what kind of program can do that? Isn't that called scripting or something? I'm not sure what kind of specific terms I should be searching for to figure out how to do these kind of things.

Or from your documents, and you want to rename all files from oldest to newest from 1 to however many files there are....

You could create a batch file to run a cmd window and execute a given command on every file in a particular folder or section, but the names would be autogenerated, and for a beginner or someone who isn't really savvy with coding that would be a nightmare to script.

Pretty much every action you make with a keyboard and mouse can be replicated with cmd on windows, so have at it.

However... do note that saving a bunch of pages of a manga like in your example would be pretty damn illegal; though... no one is going to be able to trace that really, and no one legally really cares. Though, the mods on here might so...

Don't do anything illegal, mmkay?

Also... to make a program to pull and download those pages would take more time than it would to just do it yourself. the simplest way to do it would require you adding each url by hand.

Piracy?

This.

But yes, I do believe that would be a script that would handle a task like that. Macros are too rudimentary for such a task unless each page can be done identically.

Maybe I should have been more vague, but I try to do things that people could care less about...I'm not out en mass downloading anything I come across, but some things, especially japanese/foreign things are too much of a hassle to get a hold of the legit way.

What is even the difference between scripting, and using a macro?

Attempting to tip toe around the community standards as much as I can here,

I will admit, that a large portion of pirating is done because the given media is not available in a particular region. However, going about things the legitimate way is often still the best way.

Also, there are a plethora of online ready manga options that don't break copyright rules, so if you have an internet connection there's always that.

Click on the hyperlink in my post ;)

Basically, a script is something more complex. Macros may be complex, but they are simply recordings of what you can already do with your keyboard and/or mouse. ex. I use one of my mouse buttons to go back to the previous page, and another to adjust the volume simply because it's easier than clicking back, or clicking to adjust the volume. A script is a more automated task. I call them "click one and done" because you can execute them and let them run to perform a task. ex. I have a script that runs when I start my computer. It boots into Linux then immediately reboots into Windows. I did this because my master boot record became corrupt and now my SSD isn't found as a bootable device, and I can't afford to reinstall while in the middle of college. It took a whole 5 minutes at most to set up, and takes maybe 20 more seconds for my PC to boot now (which doesn't bother me. It usually has several days of uptime, and I normally start it before I shower each morning).
