When Doom came out did AMD nerf their cards by not having drivers? Or how about AMD not supporting the version of Open GL that has given Nvidia the edge in Doom? 

 

I've owned both remember. When games ran like ass and I had AMD I heard the same thing over and over again. Wait for the driver. And when the driver sucked, it was wait for the next one. Months of waiting if I was lucky to have a game perform properly. So was AMD gimping my 390?

You'd be better off with a 1070 if you're looking for roughly equal performance.  My Gigabyte G1 Gaming 1070 is great.  I'm playing Call of Duty 4 atm and it's at about 40-50% use and staying around the low 40s C with the fans currently locked at 25% by afterburner.  It's wonderful.  I can't even hear the GPU fans.  With my old 970 running any game would've ramped up the fans enough to notice easily.  Even better the fan stop feature like the name implies stops the fans when the GPU is either not utilized enough or hot enough to need the fans I'm not sure which.

Its still 50% cheaper if you buy it from evga. But warranty might be a problem.

Looks like the cheaper one has a boost of 1076 vs 1291, it also doesn't mention LED lighting on the cheaper one, where it does on the other.  It is probably just an earlier sku from the first run.

Would it still be a solid buy for 395 new?

Pretty sure all evga cards come with LED, I'm just concerned about the differences as I wish to overclock this to near 1070 if possible

1500mhz 980 ti have roughly the same performance as 2+ghz 1070s. Nearly all of the 980 tis you buy from abroad are better deals than buying from your local merchants. A 980 ti classfied would have still costed you at least 1k sgd today.

 

But one thing to note is that the 980 tis get hot.

Thank you for the heads up, I decided to grab the 980ti classified at 395usd without dealing with MIRs instead of waiting for the school 1070s to hit their MSRP of 440 :)
