Hello everyone!

Recently, I have been having some isuses with my GPU. (A MSI GTX 970 OC Edition - You can find it here - https://us.msi.com/Graphics-card/GTX-970-4GD5T-OC.html#hero-overview)

Sometimes when playing a game, such as WoW, GTA V or even MINECRAFT! My screen will freeze, but odly enough, I can still hear sound. Which is what is leading me to believe it is the gpu.The only way to fix it is either

Option 1. Put settings on low-med and pump that fan speed to 90%.

Option 2. Force restart and wait for it to happen again.

I experience good fps no matter what settings until it just up and freezes.

I hate to say that the card must be retarded, because if i don't set the fan speed to 90, it will just allow itself to hit 140f but it just leaves the fan speed at 32%, i don't think it has EVER gone above 32% without me doing it myself.

Anyways, Setting the fan speeds still sometimes freezes me. This is my first gaming pc and I am extremely upset about this.Any help appreciated!

Also, the recommend PSU for the 970 is 500w, which is what i have.

Is the video card overclocked?  Are you using the windows driver, the cd that came with the card, the most recent stable version from nvidia or a beta version?  Also 140f / 60c is not hot for a gpu.  Many have an operating temp in the 80's c.
As far as power supply, a wattage recommendation/rating can be confusing.  The thing has to have enough amperage on the rail providing the power to the card.  You probably don't have an issue with power, but what is the model of the power supply just to verify?

There's something cool here - you just can't see it.

The card is the OC edition, but I have made no overclocking changes. The psu is an ALLIED AL-d500exp

I can see they claim you have 2 18 amp 12v rails but I cannot find any breakdown of what connectors are attached to each rail.  If both PCIE are on a single rail you do not have enough amps to power a 970 (28A 12V required).  If it does draw from both rails, you meet what the card needs, but maybe your system needs more than what remains.  Also in researching your PSU it appears to be a - frankly put - crappy potential fireworks show that doesn't meet it's stats.  I cannot say replacing your PSU will fix your problem, but I recommend replacing it with something decent.  If you can get your hands on a decent PSU for testing purposes, you can rule out a lack of enough 12V from the cheap one before making the purchase.

If turning up the fan on the GPU fixes the problem, then do it. I've never been a fan of MSI, but that just sounds stupid.

he said turning down settings and turning up fan speed.  Turning down the settings reduces the gpu load and power consumption also.  I'm thinking it has more to do with the settings than the fan speed.  It would be a different story if he was shooting up to 90°C, but there are no temp issues.

@Coos724 Did you get this as a new card or used card?  Has it recently started after working or has it done this since install?  Did you have a working graphics card installed before the 970 and what was it?
