Hello all!

A have a friend who lives across the other pond (In Australia) who has had the worst luck with laptops ever, (2-3 laptops dead in about a year. One brand new. The SATA connector was the problem I believe) (I don't have time to explain it but if you really want to know, just PM me or something) Anyway, his parents asked me to help them find one that wouldn't die in 6 months.

His requirements go something like this:

1. Price: 1000-1200 AU (About 750-900 USD)

2. Durability: Something that will be able to take some punishment (or at least one that doesn't flop around like a pancake) Also, a good record with reviews and owners is important.

3. Storage: Must be an SSD. 128GB will do fine (He's had 5 laptops over the years die from hard drive failure)

4. Cooling: Should be able to work fine in the heat. (40C/104F is the max temp)

Nice to haves

Gaming performance: Nothing special. Intel HD 520 will probably do.

RAM: He says 4GB is OK, but I'll say 6GB is the minimum.

Anyway, that's about it.

Thank you!

Honestly, with that kind of pricing I'd grab something new from HP.  You're going to get a GREAT value out of it and on top of that, their new stuff really is 10x better than their older stuff (which still wasn't awful).

http://store.hp.com/us/en/pdp/Laptops/hp-envy-x360---15z-touch laptop-t5y05av-1

That is kinda my "ideal" $600-$800 notebook.  It will have tons of horsepower and great batter life.  Not to include a far amount of durability.  (customize it with a SSD instead of a HDD)

Please spend as much time writing your question, as you want me to spend responding to it.  Take some time, and explain your issue, please!

I work at bestbuy and we carry this laptop. speaking from personal experience playing with it it is a nice, well built, enjoyable laptop to use. full aluminum, backlighting, and a good trackpad and keyboard!

Yep, I work part time at best buy right now, just trying to make some extra cash.  It really set a impression on me as far as build quality goes.  Although the one at best buy comes with a SSD automagically, but it also comes with a $800 price tag automagically.

Please spend as much time writing your question, as you want me to spend responding to it.  Take some time, and explain your issue, please!

My main Headphones and IEMs:  K612 pro, HD 25 and Ultimate Ears Reference Monitor, HD 580 with HD 600 grills

DAC and AMP: RME ADI 2 DAC

Speakers: Genelec 8040, System Audio SA205

Oh, I meant buy a aftermarket one and put it in after.  Trust me when I say you don't want a OEM install of Windows on the machine anyways.

Point number 4, is definitely not going to happen, you won’t get a laptop with max temperature of 40 degrees Celsius. That’s not even possible on idle 10min after startup.

However, that’s just the core temperature, so don’t worry you aren’t going to feel that much heat. (except 5 hours long gaming session non-stop or similar application)

So forget about point number 4.

What I meant by that is Australia gets to be that hot on some days and I didn't want a laptop that has issues working in that environment.

Ah OK then. I'm not sure that will work because that would probably push the computer over 1200 AU. Nor am I sure how to get it to Australia lol

Ok, that makes sense.

I just wanted to inform you that 40 degree is impossible on a laptop.

But 60-80 degrees are possible.

I doubt it.  Just buy the Australian model.  The difference is usually just the wireless adapter.
