I'm just curious about something so I figured I'd ask y'all to see what the consensus was. Basically, I'm going to be building a new PC relatively soon. I have a Windows 7 disk. I love Windows 7. It's treated me good for years now. Also, I already have the disk, so when my new parts come, a OS won't cost me anything. That said, SHOULD I get Windows 10 when I get the new 1070 build? What do you think? And what do you guys use for your gaming?

I use Windows.

As per why... Well, it works. It what the majority of people use, so it's got excellent compatibility. It's what I grew up using. I tried using Linux mint a long time ago, but the interface made absolutely no sense to me. Might try again sometime, but I simply have no real reason to use anything other than Windows at the moment.

Win 7 is fairly solid. Win 10 is a bit more solid in my opinion, though. The compatibility it astounding, and I've stopped getting a lot of the unprecedented errors that I was getting in 7 from time to time.

Why not get both?

Make an image of your Windows 7 machine to a separate drive.

Upgrade and you have two OS's.

The point is why spend money if I don't have to? I'm trying to get a feel for if I should bother with 10 or stick with my ol' reliable 7.

Reread my post.

If you make a clone/image of you Windows 7, you'll have a backup and can upgrade to windows 10. If a game won't run on 10,, you can always pop your Win 7 and play it there.

What makes you say that? Is there some benefit in particular that 10 offers over the older iterations, specifically for gaming?

Only Windows 10 will be using DX12 which is one of the huge gaming features to look for.
