Does VR benefit at all from crossfire? Could crossfire 280s handle VR?

Just a guy who peaked at building back in the days of the GTX 980. If you see me here, assume i have technical knowledge akin to a committed hobbyist builder back then. If something's changed, you'll need to tell me(nicely plz). I'm probably asking for help with the modern build scene since I have no clue what's going on.

If the VR game/app supports Crossfire then yes. Only do it if you already have a 280 though, otherwise get a 480.

where can i see if it supports crossfire?

The crossfire would just make the cut to run VR, but you'd have VRAM limitation issues.

Not advisable, if VR is the goal.

what about overclocking? My current card is voltage locked, but has a pretty good clock anyways. If i got an unlocked 280 and overclocked, could it work? how bad is the vram limitation? it's just that I already have a 280 and it would be so much cheaper.

The only concern I would have is VRAM... The 2gb probably won't be enough but the 4gb will do just fine.

4g is not just fine when talking about VR.

You do not NEED 8gb of VRAM to use VR. I already watched Kyles vid BTW... Look at the GTX 970/GTX 980/R9 290 performance

Oh wow, I just noticed we have the same motherboard, CPU, and similar GPUs lol.

I'd get the 480 8GB, 3GBs isn't enough for VR.

sweet, thanks.

Yeah that might not be enough... 4gb is the minimum, especially in Crossfire.

Semantics, you can play some games right now with 4g of VRAM. But as Kyle warns in the video, games will get more demanding not less.

so if i get the 480, i can either crossfire in the fuiture or overclock once that driver update for stability comes out?

i'm also seeing on newegg that some 480s are dropping as low as 199.99 USD, what's the catch?

HIGHLY suggest you wait for word on the 1060. It will beat the 480, only question is how much more will it cost. And by the time we know more about the 1060, the aftermarket 480s will be avalible. Win/Win for waiting.

The 199.99 RX 480s are the 4gb model, don't get one of them. Also the 1060 is expected to drop tomorrow so wait to see what happens there. If the 1060 beats it at a similar price their is a slight chance of a 480 price drop... O r you could just get the 1060
