So I have a stock computer from hp that's 4 years old, i'm wanting to breathe new life into it as a gaming platform by getting the new rx 480 but a thought was brought up to me. Would this GPU  be compatible with my motherboard?

http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03117539 these are the specs of the computer excluding the storage and the ram capacity. Would I need to buy a new motherboard for this to work?

RX480 has power issues ATM, so not reccomended.

Mobo is fine, but you'll need a new PSU.

i'm aware of the power supply as I plan to order one soon, power issue with the 480 is also noted but i'm referring to the bios of the motherboard. would it be compatible or would the 480 need a motherboard with UEFI?

check whether you have this kind of connector hanging from the PSU

judging from the product page the outlook isn't good, so you'll need a new PSU or wait for RX 460

the power supply will have the +2 pin but again, power isn't what i'm asking about. I'm asking about the BIOS and whether or not it will be compatible with the rx 480

AMD's claiming they're releasing a driver update that should fix the power draw issue that's been reported

There shouldn't be a problem with it running a rx480, at least not that I can see

would you also agree with me that the BIOS is completely and fully compatible?

AMD was also claiming that the problem didn't exist, so I suppose we'll have to see =p
