Here are some graphics cards that I can afford in AUD. Please pick one, your vote and recommendations will be a great help for me. I can be a bit flexible with my budget since I am paying for it myself and can just make a bit more money but not too much. I am only a high school kid after all.

For reference aud $260 = $195 usd , $300 = $226 usd, $400 = $301 and so on.

Thanks for helpin out :)

390x out of the list. But if you're doing 1080p only it actually might be a bit overkill. Not sure why 480 isn't on your list: that and the 1060 will be very competitive options shortly.

That 390x is faster than all of those cards listed. And only for $4 more? Why not?

i5 2400 | ASUS RTX 4090 TUF OC | Seasonic 1200W Prime Gold | WD Green 120gb | WD Blue 1tb | some ram | a random case

With all the rumors about it damaging motherboards due to it being out of spec with PCIe power wattage I wouldn't go for it unless you wait for custom AIB cards come out. Also Polaris is targeted for mainstream market, Vega is suppose to be high end market but that wont be out for awhile unfortunately.

The RX480 apparently is still for pre order in most shops and is going to be released with prices up to $900aud, (677usd) when its rrp is only $305 ($230). If I do find a place with the rx480 I will be happy to get it since when i saw it i knew to get it but then saw the news about all the faulty chips and shit

Definitely! I love Nvidia since they are making cheaper versions (although not as good) GPU's for the people who cant afford the 1080 which goes up to $1400aud

390x isnt overkill for 1080p. hell, even a 1070 struggles to maintain 60fps maxed in a number of games at 1080p. for mid range cards the 390 is a hell of a card, i have one myself. so, id go 390x depending on how much the 480 is. the 480 isnt quite on par with the 390x but if its much cheaper than going for the newer card at a lesser price its probably worth sacrificing a little performance.

as for the 1060. its probably going to deliver 970 performance with 2 more gigs at the same 300 dollar price point. in other words its really a parallel move by nvidia. the 480 offers 8g for much less than the 6g 1060 will be.

Maintain? As in minimum 60 fps? Perhaps but barely any so far. Care to point which? I can test for them. If you meant average then flatout no: nothing averages just 60 at 1080p not even Witcher 3 fully maxed out with max hairworks on maintains an average well above 60, I just turn it off since it looks kinda weird and the dips at 40s on occasion can be noticeable.

The 390x should be fine for some future proofing at 1080p I can see that reasoning.

Thanks to everyone who gave input and helped out with this decision. My short term answer would be the  MSI 8G R9-390X Gaming VGA Card which was the most popular vote, but since I have not fully made all the money I need; it will take a while, leaving the second shipment of rx480's to come out and hopefully lower in price or the GTX 1060 is released. Hopefully if both of these cards come fit my budget I will choose one of them depending on which one works more efficiently and has more vram for their prices.

So I have found the RX480 that is at its proper price point. Which should I get?

- ASUS RADEON RX 480 8G Gaming Graphics Card -  $449.00 aud

- MSI RADEON RX 480 8G Gaming Graphic Card - $439 aud

- Gigabyte RADEON RX 480 8G Gaming Graphics Card - $449 aud

or should I stay with the gpu i am already getting the MSI 8G R9-390X Gaming VGA Card - $459 aud
