Neither of them provide perfect balance between CPU and GPU.

I will recommend

CPU :i5 6th / 4th  gen  K / non K

GPU : GTX 1070

What was wrong with 5th gen?

Expensive, just Haswell on 14nm with no improvements, hard to actually get.

First : 5th gen is expensive

second : i don't know your location ( country ) &  budget for your entire rig

Third : if you can afford FX 8350 + GTX 1080 than you can afford i5 + GTX 1070, I can become more specific about CPU and GPU if i know your budget and location.

Forth : If you are going to play games extra core ( more than 4 ) and threads are not going to help you, 4 solid cores is enough. What do you mean by light work station ? what kind of work you are going to do in your PC.

First: that's all I wanted to know
