The GPU Queen? (Considering latest drivers)

StefanWylde

So, at the moment, which one has the crown? nVidia or AMD? (Taking Titan out of the discussion since well, It's twice the price and well, different class)

Which one's better, with the very latest beta drivers, by nVidia and AMD, is it the GTX 680 or HD 7970?

Also, here's an advice for Linus. Why don't you do a comparison video? You know, how much performance gain there is, since the release? So the chart would look like, GTX 680 (w/ release drivers) vs HD 7970 (w/ release drivers) (I'm pretty sure you've got these results already) vs GTX 680 (314.07) vs HD 7970 (I don't know AMD's latest drivers).

Cheers.

It depends on which games. The 680 can merk a 7970 in game A but the 7970 can turn around and destroy the 680 in game B.

7970 is currently the winner all around. The 680 has it's moments but AMD really got their act together last autumn and released some great drivers.

  • 5.0GHz i7-3770k Processor
  • Asus Maximus V Formula Z77 Mobo
  • SLI Asus DCUII 670's Watercooled
  • 120GB Corsair Force GT3 Boot SSD

If we take 10 games with highest system requirements, which one will be the overall winner I'm sayin'...

So

Crysis 3

Crysis 2 (with hi-res pack and dx 11)

Battlefield 3

Metro 2033

Far Cry 3

etc etc

I can't think of that many at the moment... anyways can we have an overall winner? And who's it gonna be?

I think either Nividia or AMD are going to win. 1 of those 2 definitely.

Life is pain. Anyone who says any different is either selling something or the government.

----CPU: FX-6300 @ 4.2ghz----COOLER: Hyper 212 EVO----MOBO: MSI 970A-G46----PSU: OCZ 600watt----CASE: Black Corsair C70----GPU: Sapphire 7870 dual fan ghz edtion----2 random HDD'S----A couple fans here and there. Mouse: Gigabyte M6900-------Keyboard: Logitech G105-----Mousepad: Steel series something something.

Both cards are great, but the 7970 will set you back less and is more future proof. I'd go 7970 if I was in your position. I kind of regret going SLI 670's at this point.

Some games may work better on AMD cards than Nvidia cards so its hard to say which one is the best.

7970 in mist games but with the release drivers the 7970 is worse that the 680 with its release drivers if you do some digging you might find some benchmarks from the releases

Crysis 2 7970 Ghz 3% faster than 680..

BF3 7970 Ghz 7.7% faster than 680

Metro 2033 7970 GHz 26% faster than 680

Crysis 3 & Far Cry 3 are both AMD optimized and the 7970 Ghz also outperforms the 680.

The 7970 Ghz is overall faster than the 680.

All performance numbers were taken from techpowerup.com

http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/Club_3D/HD_7870_jokerCard_Tahiti_LE/28.html

Far Cry 3 and Crysis 3 results were extrapolated from Linus's benchmark videos, although he didn't test the 680, I used the performance difference between the 7950 & the 660 Ti + the 7970 & the 670 to draw a conclusion.
