Tips for Transferring Steam Folder to New Drive

Hi guys,

 

So I followed Linus’s tip on short stroking a hard drive.

 

Now I intend to move my steam folder on the old drive (D) to the new drive (G) since I’m going to reformat the old one (D).

 

 

Could I ask for tips on how to do this?

 

My setup is as follows, 3 Drives.

C = SSD Boot Drive

D, E, F = Old Drive (1 TB)

G = New Drive (2 TB)

Create a steam folder on the new hardrive. Then download steam mover and see if you can do it with that.

Close Steam.

Copy the Steam folder to the new drive (a plain old Ctrl+C & Ctrl+V combo will do here, depending on size of install you might be best running the copy before going to bed).

Redirect shortcuts (and taskbar pins if needed) to the new location (this often is forgotten).

Open Steam (from G: drive) and go Steam -> Settings -> Downloads -> Steam Library Folders and add the G: drive's location (where you copied Steam to) then set it as Default.

Verify that everything is copied from D: drive to G: drive before wiping the D: drive.

Once D: drive is cleared, close and reopen Steam before going back to Steam Library Folders and remove the old D: folder (if it's not already removed by Steam).
