HI guys, I have an Asus 7970 and whenever I apply an overclock it register in the software, but the clocks don't actually change. So MSI Afterburner has the core clock slider on 1000 MHz but the card still runs at 925Mhz, basically ignoring my overclock. How do I fix this? It does not work on any overclocking software including GPUTweak and AMD Overdrive.

Have you tried turning it off and on again?

Make sure it's set to that speed in Crimson as well.

In what applications does the card run at 925Mhz?

could just be a bad silicon lottery draw, what are temps? did you try to change power limit and voltage?

.... Did you save the profile and hit apply? That's a mistake I often make....

Basically everything, all games.

It's around 75C at stock clocks when running games. I didn't change the voltage but I don't think you need to for low overclocks.

Yep haha

It's set to the exact same speed in Crimson, in fact it was because the card WOULDN'T run at the speeds I set in Crimson that I installed Afterburner to see if that would help, but it didnt.

You can see in the screenshot I have attached that even though I set the GPU clock to 1000MHz and the memory clock to 1410MHz, it STILL runs at 925MHz and 1375MHz respectively during games.

turn the power control up and see if it OCs or if it stays the same, or accept that it's a lottery loser

Weird, have you tried to give it a bit more power? AMD Tends to keep the voltage just enough in order for the card to work at stock speeds, giving it +20% Power won't break the card, It'll just make it run quite a bit hotter ;)

Will that significantly reduce the lifespan of the card?

Have you tried turning it off and on again?

the lifespan is considerably reduced when you take the card out of the box, should you be concerned bout that? - probably not..

I don't understand how overvolting it will help with this issue though... even when I overclock it a mere 5MHz, it still stays at stock clocks. I think there's some other issue at play here...

Overvolting and power limits are too different things. Overvolting is telling the card to run higher, while increasing the power limit lets the card draw more power if it needs to.

Have you tried turning it off and back on again?

I tried increasing the power limit but it still doesn't overclock properly.
