Straight fan blades

For a while I've seen some graphics cards such as the RX 480 with, if this makes sense, straight-bladed (or in the case of the 480, diagonal), vertical fan blades as opposed to the usual design. This fan design is also found in Macs, as well as numerous other modern graphics cards. Is there a name for this design, and what benefits does it bring besides aesthetics?

You mean blower cards? They're more desirable for small system builds or ones that are not as good for airflow as it exhaust the heat out the back of the PCI-E slot where most aftermarket are downdraft style and heat up the interior of the case.
