I've noticed that people say that the corsair CX series are low quality power supplies, even though to me, they seem perfectly fine.

what makes a power supply good, and what are some good power supplies 650W+ That I could buy for my upcoming computer

The old green units were of OK quality but were often put in PCs that they were not meant to power. An R7 360 + Athlon 860 would be perfect for a CX, not a 980ti + i7, which a lot of people put them in. The new ones (grey logo) are much better and I'd not wince at someone putting them in a system with a 970, however they have a sleeve-bearing fan which means you can expect that to die after a few years.

Check out the PSU whitelist in my signature for some good options.

My account is almost entirely dormant. Hope you all are having a grand time. Many years of fun were had here.

the quality of the capacitors, and the amount of AMPs it can provide on its rails, most important rail being the 12v rail because that powers your GPU, CPU, HDDS, and other accessories or componets

the quality of the components make the psu good the cx series is fine for lower builds that dont draw as much power but for hardware that uses new generation top of the line components you would want an evga or seasonic psu.

Another thing. the CX series is different than the CXM series. CXM is a good budget PSU. its not a top tier PSU that you should be overclocking your X99 and dual 1080 setup with or anything like that, but for alot of budget system builders its a decent option.

The M denotes that it is modular. Some of the older Green label models had the M included in the name i.e. CX500M so you still need to make sure you buy the right one (Grey label)
