I have watched lots of videos on them and if you are wanting a drone that is the only brand your should get. They are just the best all around.

But the question is do you need a 4?

Perhaps you should get a phantom 3 advanced or pro. They're cheaper than the $1300 of the 4, but still offer the advantages of dji products.

Do you know how to fly a quad already? Or a helicopter? If not, don't learn on a $1300 production tool, learn on a $50 toy like an inductrix.

If you're doing this professionaly, you will most likely need a special license depending on your country. If you're in America, the FAA just passed a new ruling on commercial use of UAS, you will need to pass a course and get a certificate at an approved FAA facility.

I recently purchased the Phantom 4.  The new features DJI added to the 4 makes it easier for beginners to fly the drone.

Also, if you want to see the quality of the Phantom 3 and 4, there are several videos online. Though keep in mind that the best ones are created by people who know what they are doing.  Photography and videography are two fields where knowledge, experience and skill is more important than the technology.  Of course technology can assist an artist create fantastic works of art, but it won't turn a crappy artist into a master.

For sub $2000 drone+cameras, their quality is pretty good.  If you want higher quality images you'd have to spend $5000 or more.

I have a RC plane, and I had an older drone, don't know the name anymore, it was made of foam and used an iPad for controls. I can easily trust myself with the Phantom. Also, you need to register the drone with the FAA for recreational purposes don't you? Where can you do that?

Parrot AR drone. Yeah, you should be fine if you're comfortable with a traditional rc radio. The phantom 4 can literally fly itself, you'll be fine if you go that route and the phantom 3 is also a breeze.

Out of curiosity, what country are you in? Again, if you want to use the aircraft for video services, you will most likely need special licensing and perhaps higher fees along with a class.

I'm in the US. What do I need if I just want to film for recreational purposes?

You just need to register. Give the FAA your name, address, email, and 5 of your hard earned dollars. In return, they'll give you a number that you must have on your aircraft and the threat of very hefty fines if you break any of their easy to follow rules.

Just registered. What do I do to get the number on my drone? If you have one, what did you do?

I printed it out at like 36 point bold font and taped it to the under side of my quad. I've seen a lot of phantom users put it on the battery, but I would stick the number on the top of the aircraft.

The phantom 4 has a lot of nice bells and whistles.  I own a phantom 2 with the gopro gimbal.  I love it,  but the phantoms 2 and 3 I don't know about the 4 eat up there batteries.  You've get an average life span of 6 months to a year on one battery and the starting cost is 129 us dollars.  That's why you should always have a spare battery ready incase of failure.

Well they're LiPo's, what do you expect? Especially if you don't treat them right, allow a bit of time between when you finish your flight and when you start charging again. If it's warm, wait for it to cool before you charge again.

Does the Phantom 4 have a microphone by chance?

No and you wouldn't want to have a mic on it.  The motors and propellers are very noisy. All you'd be recording is their sound.

Ah. I actually just bought it today. Only had a chance for a quick flight before it got dark!

A friend of mine who has the Phantom 3 pro for a while recommended that I buy some ND filters for the camera when I bought the 4.

I also bought some extra batteries.

Was gonna get a battery at the apple store but it was like 40 dollars higher than Amazon. So I'm getting it off Amazon and the charger dock.

Yeah, that's good.  Where I live, I got the Phantom 4 from the Apple store because it was by default about 5% cheaper than anywhere else, adding my 10% business customer discount with Apple, it became cheaper still.
