So, i am using this setup, that i have, for a year now. Cpu temps were fine all the time, but since yesterday it started to act strangely. So my idle temps are like 54-60 C or 129 - 140 F, and like that it was all the time and when i played games, like GTA V, Project Cars, Dead by Daylight, BF3, CS:GO temperature never got more than 65 degrees. So, yesterday, i, as usual, loaded up Project Cars, and started racing, when suddenly my pc crashed. So i did the same thing again, but this time i checked my temps and i saw that i went to 90 degrees and then crashed. I mean that have never happened, and nothing has changed at all. I have intel core i3 2120 with stock cooler and GTX 960. Ambient temperature is around 30 degrees or 86 F. The pc is cleaned regularly and there is no dust there. The cpu cooler was cleaned and a new layer of thermal paste also was applied, like 2 weeks ago and everything was fine. Any suggestions? I think i should change the stock cooler to an liquid cooler, but why such gigantic temperature change? Also i have 1 intake 1 exhaust 120mm fans.

65 is fine. My personal maximum threshold is 70ºC, other people on the forum even say you're fine up to 90ºC (I'm rather skeptical of that though)

Misread.

Make sure the stock cooler is properly seated (all locks are securely attached). Second option is get another cooler, Hyper 212 Evo for example. Or liquid cooling, if you wish.

I would take and repaste your CPU and re-seat your cooler. Sounds like it may have an air pocket or something or has dried up a bit and not working well. Even with the stock cooler, you shouldnt be hitting 60c+ at idle.

Sorry about that. For thermal paste the best method, i have found:

put a line of paste in the middle of the CPU, following the longest side and spread it out with your finger , or if you get a kit the included spreader. There are other methods but personal I find this the most effective, then when you go to place the cooler on leave it on the top for a minute or so and then attache it, this will help get the air out. Sorry about misreading your post, and the late reply, have end of year tests at the moment.

Have you tried turning it off and on again?
