Actually - there's a difference between high Tess and absurd Tess. GameWorks has 64x Tess - that is utterly useless and serves to gimp everything that is not Maxwell or modded Maxwell (Pascal)

Be that as it may, spreading false fear does nothing to help anyone. No one is trying to argue that more memory can't hurt, but to make it out to be an issue is absurd. But, fear sells better. And those that buy it are responsible for the consequences.

If anyone asks you never saw me.

And what am I supposed to say when the guy asks if the 4GB card will last him 5 years when newer cards are all 8GB and are going towards 16GB?

Read my post to start. I agreed with you. It's your assertion there is a present issue with having 4g of memory that is the point of contention. Someone with a 290x shouldn't worry about their 4g of memory. In a few years, then we might start to see games that a 290x would have to make some meaningful sacrifices.

But it IS an issue when the 980, for example, can run the game at extreme settings and sustain 50fps in a 8GB laptop but isn't allowed to do the same by the devs due to the frame buffer on desktop.

Cite me please. Not calling the claim into question, just haven't heard of it.

That's 3.5g against 8g, and you can adjust settings :P

Still - due to VRAM starvation a 970 is forced to run at lower settings than it's capable :)

Good example, but a case study. Quantum Break is one too xD If I owned a 970 I wouldn't be selling my card because one game proves to be a limitation. And I'd be very curious as to how the 290 faired in the same test.

nah, Rainbow Six Siege is a better example

I heard dropping the textures helps and doesn't make that big a difference. Buddy has a 970 and 1080p 144hz. Which seems to be the theme in this. More marketing to get people to have to buy new cards than an actual problem. I'd make a gimping joke but I'll be good xD

@App4that @don_svetlio @IshGames

Here you go, some games that can use more than 4gb at 1080p, not even at max settings.
