Drop to an i5 6400 and try getting an SSD for OS, don't worry you can still OC it with a Z170 (BLCK)

I've seen people reaching 4.5 GHz on a 6400 using an ASRock H170 board, with good ram kit and CPU cooler ofc

don't get a h170 board if you wanna overclock, BCLK overclocking isn't worth it. the asrock z170 is $83 after rebates, get that instead.

What's wrong with the Gigabyte board I have now? Also, which cheap 120 GB SSD would you recommend?

that board's fine, just woke up and didn't notice the z170. but don't follow garnet's advice, either get a 6600k and z170 or an i5 6500 and h110/b150/h170 board.

sp550 is a good budget ssd.
