When it comes to 1070's currently all of them are sold out and the only aftermarket card I can get is the Gigabyte G1 Gaming and it's not in stock also, but will be available in 2 weeks :(

Should I get the 1070 FE tomorrow or wait 2 weeks for the G1 gaming?

Also, what do you think about the performance difference in OC and cooling between these 2 cards?

Also, thanks for all the help guys ^_^

Wait 2 weeks. G1 gaming will be cooler, quieter. have higher overclocking potential..etc

Hi guys,

I'm new to the forum, but I have been watching LTT for yrs now and I know a big amount of things related to computers & technology.

I need your opinions/experience with the new 10 series cards.

I don't know should I get a 1070 or a 1080 for 1080p60hz

I plan on getting a faster monitor and upgrading my build to watercooling,

but not until next year...

I was first going to get the Asus Strix 1070 (the better OC model from the two) but they are out of stock where I live and won't be arround for the next month or more.

I was looking at the price and it was the same for the FE and for the strix version.

So I didn't end up getting the 1070 FE because all of the reviews on thermal throttling on the FE blower style cooler.

Now I'm thinking, maybe I should get the 1080 FE?
I won't OC it since there is no need at 1080p so it wont throttle,
but I'm still thinking is it worth the 250 euro more for the 1080?

I'm not into dual gpu's, so I'm not thinking of the RX 480 etc...

Thank you in advance and I hope you help me make my mind up.

Btw this is the first time I am buying a card this expensive and I dont plan to upgrade for the minimum of 5 yrs so keep that in mind also :)

Cheers

K so what you want is 1080p Gaming at 60 fps , now the GTX 970 already delivers that at its maximun settings in 99% of the games, and the RX-480 does have better performance than the 970, in wich case it will totally suffice your needs, same goes for the 1070 wich yields 980ti performance, the 1080 will be overkill unless you want BF4 at 144fps+ on a 144hz pannel, otherwise i dont see a point on a 1080 for 1080p gaming (unless doin surround 1080s)

You can get two EVGA 960 FTW ACX 2.0 for the same price as a 1080. Run them in SLI mode and there you go.

I don't know if you're being serious or not...

@leon_cro I vote 1070 aftermarket edition.

The speeds and performance should be arround the same at least a 5% increase, temps should be way better at 10c lower

For 1080p gaming, GTX 1070 is plenty.

Hey, thanks for your opinion! :)

I'dont plan buying a 144hz panel within the next year, so I agree the 1080 is overkill from that standpoint.

But, would you agree that in 5 yrs I could possibly max out all the newest games on 1080p if I get the 1080?

I don't know how long the 1070 is going to be able to run all the newest games on max settings 1080p...

Does it matter from what AIB I get the FE?

ATM the only available brand is PNY

I never owned one of their cards or know someone :D

if we follow what other cards have acomplished, i dont think in 5 years the 1080 will run games at 1080p, lets say, 5 years from now the GTX 580 was released, while it can run some games at ultra 1080p, it cant run witcher 3 at medium, so i dont think it will
