HDD's will become less trust able over the years even if they are not used, they most of the time work even if they are 10 years + but you dont want to have some important photo's on a drive so old.

Not sure about SSD's i think not or less.

Quote or mention me if not feel ignored

if you keep the the HDD in a safe place, (anti static bags, not cold, or hot places, no moisture) they they'll be fine.  SSD, i duno.  From the other posts, not the most ideal solution.  But HDD's are good, because even when data is lost, experts can find ways to recover data, in most cases.  SSD's become a lost cause when shit happens.  So to answer your question strictly, HDD + Safe Place = Good.

However, i HIGHLY recommend a cloud backup solution, or at least an offsite solution.  Its highly recommended as I myself know people who've lost all their precious data, (including family photos) due to everything was at home, and they lost their home.  Google Photos is a good place to start, as its free, simple, and a unique UI that can help sort, album, and search through photos.

If you dont like the idea of Google going through your stuff, Crashplan is great if you have a friend with good internet plans, and uses his computer a lot, cause you can backup to another computer (or user) free, and it secures the data, so no normal person, including tech geeks can see the data.  Unless they have your password.

Then there are paid stuff, crashplan is good again for that, and its relatively cheap.  Check it out.

Hardrives are going to be your best bet. SSds you have to keep them powered  to store your data because it degrades over time if not plunged  in .

Thank you for the information, I guess I will get a hdd then, I was thinking that an ssd would be better since there's no moving parts and if I have to move around(traveling, moving house etc.) there would be less of a chance of damaging it.  Trevor, what do you think would be better assuming that I move around a lot and lets say back up my photos once a month, do you still think hdd would be a better option?

Just read some thing interesting on backing up and what pros and cons of storage. SDD is great for day to day use and very short storage. Hard drive is still going to be your best bet.:)

Okay so hdd it is then, I guess I will just replace it every 3-4 years or something.
