Hi guys,

So, recently I moved to a different country, so I left my gaming PC home, and now that i've settled I'm looking to build a new one. Please bare in mind, this is a budget build but with the condition of being playable at decent levels and most importantly allowing for good future upgrades, with that I mean upgrading CPU and GPU without having to get a new motherboard, obviously will add a SSD and better cooling in the future but that is not directly related to which platform I picked.

So basically I wanted to go with Intel instead of AMD because I want to update the CPU in the future without having to buy another motherboard, since AMD upcoming chips will use a different socket, if I wanted to upgrade to a new one I would have to get a new mobo, so i decided to go Intel, since (and please correct me if am I wrong) the upcoming Intel chips will still be LGA 1151 socket I will be able to upgrade the CPU easily. The choice of the GPU was based on a lot of research and some compromising to save money since I want to spend the least amount possible for PC+monitor+peripherals (keyboard+mouse) since I literally have nothing. Initially I had picked the r9 380, but ended up settling for the r7 370 due to the price difference.

So, if you somehow think that there is any way I can cut costs even more without compromising ridiculously please do let me know.

Here is what I've picked:

Intel i3-6100

ASUS H110M-A

MSI AMD R7 370

EVGA 500W

WD 1TB blue caviar

BitFenix Comrade

Samsung S22D300HY 21.5 inch LED HDMI

+cheap mouse&keyboard

Kingston value ram 2x4GB DDR4

Thanks guys&gals!

Hey! A couple things to keep in mind.

The EVGA 500B (80 Plus Bronze) it better than the 500W and can be had for around the same price in most countries. Even if it costs a little more, it's worth getting.

The R7 370 represents a pretty bad value for a graphics card right now, what with cards that almost double its performance coming at the same price in the future. If you can wait a month for those to be released, you'll be getting much better for your money.

The Bitfenix Comrade isn't my favourite case but if you like it go for it :) Just don't treat it roughly since it's flimsier than higher-end cases.

And finally, consider an SSD. It will set you back a bit more, but even a 120GB model will give you much snappier and faster response in the Operating System, and much faster load times in games.

Oh sorry forgot to mention that, its a good question, currently with everything I listed its around 500GBP, but honestly, as low as possible would be the right answer to your question.

Are you willing to max out your budget? If so, this is a good build :D (waiting for Polaris may be a good idea but 380s are dirt cheap so you know :P

I know it's 15 pounds over budget but the 380 is a lot more powerful than a 370 so it's your call :/. You can get a cheaper keyboard and mouse lowering prices and you can go for a hard drive if you need more than 240GB of storage space. Polaris may offer more performance for same or for less monies but this is highly dependent on the performance and pricing as 124 pounds for a fucking 380 is a great deal :D.

edit: extremely shitty and bad mouse and keyboard can drive the price low enough :P

Heya!

What's the different between the 500W and 500B?

About the graphics, that's something I did not know about, thank you very much for the hint, I'm actually not in a rush to buy the components to be honest, so I will def wait to see what's being released.

Not my favourite either, but the price got me, do you have any suggestion for a similar priced case?

The SSD is a good point also, I've been debating to myself getting an SSD instead, since I can always get a HDD later anyways, and I wont need massive amounts of storage for now, as I have my laptop anyways with 1TB for any mass storage I might need.

Thanks! I've been following Linus for ages, don't know what took me so long to sign up.

Ahah the good old budget stretching! Those are actually very interesting options there! I never really considered a mini tower, that's something I should def look at. Have you used the Zalman one before? On my last build I used a Zalman case and I was not pleased with it, mounting the motherboard was a pain in the ass, the holes for the motherboard were not properly cut and the sizes of the holes were all over the place.

Also, since you mention the 2gb version of the 380. I've considered that, but what threw me off was the fact that had 2gb, but I'm guessing that a 2 gb 380 will always be better than a 4gb 370?

Have a Zalman t4 as the case for my secondary PC, for the money you pay, it's decent quality, has dust filters for both bottom and front intake, I didn't have a problem mounting my h61 Matx to it but these are really cheap cases so I coulda lucked out to have no build quality issues :/

Well 2GB less Vram an actual problem that I didn't notice, average frame rates will definately be higher with the 380 but you may face stuttering and other shit as it starves for Vram...It's sooooooo cheap for a 380 tho...aghhhhh, wait till the 360/370? They'll definitely provide the same performance for possibly less monies (but if it doesn't, it would drive all 380 and what ever prices down so win win situation?).

Looking at my signature are we now? Well too bad there's nothing here...

I see, well yeah I guess you get what you pay for. I might as well just wait for the next releases. Can always buy some of the components now, and get everything ready for the releases, then it's just ordering the card and plug it in, I can always use the pc for basic stuff without a graphics card, until I get it.
