Not sure if this counts as technology.

So I got an iPad Air case that has a cover on it (here for anyone interested). And it has a feature where that when you lift the cover up, the iPad will wake up. Also if you close the cover, the iPad will go to sleep. I was just wondering what is the "science" behind that?

I work at a repair shop. I haven't worked on any iPad airs but that feature has been around since the iPad 2 (or 3) and whenever I open one up and see inside. there are a few magnets on the edges and corners connected to something. When the magnets feel disengaged, they then wake the ipad up. thats it in a nut shell but its seriously voodoo magic with how its all done.

Space Journal #1: So Apparently i  was dropped on the moon like i'm a mars rover, in a matter of hours i have found the transformers on the dark side of the moon. Turns out its not that dark since dem robots are filled with lights, i waved hi to the Russians on the space station, turns out all those stories about space finding humans instead of the other way around is true(soviet Russia joke). They threw me some Heineken beer and I've been sitting staring at the people of this forum and earth since.

IKR! I was shocked when my iPad got turned on when I opened the cover and I couldn't wrap my brain around what the hell was happening!

Yeah, it's just the magnets triggering the screen to wake and sleep. I couldn't figure it out either :P

IT uses the accelerometer and magnets to determine if you're opening the case or not.

Judge a product on its own merits AND the company that made it.
