Proper GPU for my PC

I am wanting to build my first pc, and trying to pic a GPU for my build is painstaking. All I want to do is play almost any game I want (with a couple of exceptions, Im looking at you crysis) at 1080p, at high to ultra, with 60 fps a minimum. Im not wanting to push 4k or anything fancy like that. I just want to play the games I want to and have them look pretty. My original plan was to get a strix 970, but then someone suggested the AMD rx 480. someone also suggested a  gtx 1070 for a little future proofness, is a 1070 overkill? I am just trying to get the right card for me.

Wait for june 29th, to see what the rx 480 can do, but it looks like really good value, and even if you don't end up buying it, it's price should put pressure on the rest of the market to lower theirs.

id say 480 for 1080p. 1070 is a bit overkill

depends on your budget and when you plan to upgrade again, I don't really think you can currently beat a gtx 1070, it might be overkill now, but in a year or two it should still run 1080p just fine on new games. Certainly wait for the stats on the rx 480, but if you must buy now, get the 1070.

Either way I will be waiting, idk where to even find an msi gtx 1070 for around $380. If any one knows where to find them in stock let me know

I am also going to be using the I5-6500. If I got the 1070, would the cpu be a bottleneck

480 when it drops looks to be your best bet.

 

No, an i5-6500 won't bottleneck anything.  You could SLI 1080s and still be fine.
