Help with RAM

Have a question for the community:

 

Can you use higher frequency RAM in a motherboard above what it's specs include?

 

Im putting together a used parts build and while shopping for RAM haven't had much luck with DDR3-1333 (the highest frequency the motherboard lists compatible) and I was hoping I could get away with using DDR3-1600.

 

Oh, I'm using a Xeon X3450 processor on an Asus P7P55D-E motherboard.

it will just run at a lower frequency

Yes, you can use higer clocked ram that your motherboard supports. It will down clock it to it's supported clock.

Thanks for the replies!  I thought that was the case, but I wasnt 100% certain.
