Yes.  Where else were you planning to get Windows updates from?  Microsoft is the only real source.  Anything else would be a scam.

Yes, they update it to add features, and more importantly, patch security holes.  Just make sure you pick intelligent settings that work with your schedule - there's no need for it to automatically reboot while you're playing a game :P
