I have been running Linux for over 2 years on all my servers.  And i've got to say. I am damn happy with it. Everything works flawless. But.. and this is a big BUT. On my dedicated server from SYS. The only thing i run are game server and a teamspeak server. And when it comes to game server which is 95% ARK there are just better tools out there for windows. I dont want to use 10 cause all of the extra useless stuff. Any opinions on this? Also any tips? so it doesn't force windows 10, A good firewall program maybe? I plan to use teamviewer are there any alternatives?

Run Server 2008 or 2012, if you need Windows. They are locked down better than consumer versions, much easier to manage, and utilize less resources out of the box (so better performance).

that's probably the path to go, with the unfortunate side effect the keys are mindlessly expensive.

also, do these tools run under mono/wine? that may be worth a try.

Unless you need the additional functionality of a Windows server, the consumer versions will run as well.

I was thinking windows server. 2008/12 The price is not a problem  ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) . But i do not need any of the functionality.

the standard edition winserv isnt much more "functional" than a windows pro version. but it does however cut out all the unnecessary crap you dont need in a server:

- wifi support

- bluetooth

- fancy themes

- A LOT of unnecessary background services

- audio drivers

- ...

Looks like i might be going with the consumer version. i want to be on the newest update for security reasons. But then i will have to worry about windows 10 force update. Is there any fix for this? Id rather not have my game server that i only have access to using teamviewer update to windows 10.

Wow.. Thats quite a lot that i don't need. But the permission system and everything seems to be a pain in the ass. But it might be worth to set up a VM and learn it. Any guieds/tips you recommend?

if you dont need to use the permission system you can just pretty much ignore it.

its mostly for when it is (which, a good 75% if windows server installs i'd guess are) used at a company for windows domain management, AKA when the office computers log into windows trough an account on the server, blabla complex stuff.

TLDR: dont worry about it, when its not implemented as the highest order in a windows network you can gladly ignore all of that.

It is a pain, but don't let updates auto-install. You need to vet them and not install the ones that install the win10 upgrade nagware. Generally, anything marked as security is ok. Just be more careful about ones listed as an update. There is likely a list somewhere out there so you can see which ones are the ones to watch out for, but I've not done this myself in detail.
