Hey guys,

So i am an absolute noob in regards to watercooling systems.

I have never done it before and im looking to build my first custom loop.

first off some information:

I am not looking to get a crazy overclock nor am i running a sick system with gtx1080 sli or anything.

This means that im not looking to get the best of the best cooling.

I will just be running a i5-6600k with a decent oc.

Im looking for a "cheap" loop thats also cost efficient.

Also i did do quiet some research and i do know about the basics of watercooling but when it comes to what parts and brands to buy im a little overwhelmed atm.

So my first question is what do u think about those premade kits that some brands offer? worth it or not?

and secondly im looking for some general tips on what parts to get and what things to look out for. For example it seems that u should always be looking for a laing pump.

Also i found this low budget loop from ghost:

Is still up to date or did things change a lot?

last but not least i did try to put some parts together myself and im mainly wondering if this would work in general (as in it has everything it needs to work since im still not 100% sure if i understood everything with the fitting sizes etc.)

and also if the parts would be all right.

Thank you in advance for ur help :)

Ah one more thing. I am also looking at the Fractal Design R5 Case. Good choice or are there better/ cheaper ones out there?

EDIT: Oh just noticed i missed coolant and fans ^^ i guess i could figure that out myself tho.

Define R5 is a good choise. I also recommend you to go with d5 pump instead of ddc... This one can be really noisy. Also, you should get a Y-type splitter in order to use your ball-valve properly.

Finally, get some Ekwb concentrate for mixing fluid, maybe.

The rest seems fine :)

Edited: typos.

well but the D5 are even more expensive arent they? do u have a cheap alternative maybe?

Those 6 fittings would be all i need? If i wanna use hard tube id have to do everything with bends tho right?

They are better/quieter/stronger

Please, quote or mention me in messages so I can see them.

Yes, D5 is more expensive, but it is way quiter on high speed, it's way more durable and can handle higher liquid temps.

Don't save money on pump, this is a true heart of your loop.

As I remember, d5+res combos are from $95 on ekwb.

EDIT: Would this 1 be ok? https://www.ekwb.com/shop/ek-xres-140-revo-d5-pwm-incl-pump

Yeah, that's fine. Pumb+res combo is a good choice, because you can save some on fittings.

For the first time it's better to go with soft tubing, hard ones can be pain in the ass.

Yeah i figured soft tubing is easier but tbh i mostly wanna do it for the fun of doing it and for the looks ... and i prefer the hard tubing look^^

i feel like i dont have 2 left hands and the only downside to it are the extra materials i need to work it. as in heatgun n stuff.

Ok so i made a new shopping cart on ekwb. I added a screenshot since i didnt find another option to post it.

Does that look fine? or what should i change?

Also i was wondering about getting Plugs or not ? generally each component should have 1 in and 1 out so i shouldnt need any right?

i couldnt find speccs on the pump combo tho. can some1 tell?

And do install the ball valve i just need to put the Y splitter on the out of the pump and on 1 side i just add my loop and on the other i add the valve which i have closed and i can open to dry my system right?

ty for ur help :)

You're going to need a male-male fitting in order to connect that valve to your y-splitter. https://www.ekwb.com/shop/ek-af-extender-6mm-m-m-nickel

Also consider where you're going to be running the tubes before you buy as you might end up needing some angled fittings or extra tubing.

Do not get that coolant! It is not compatible with PETG and will cause issues over time. I suggest instead picking up Mayhems X1 or any other coolant which is not propylene glycol based. The EK coolant unfortunately is.

ty for the tip :)

im still undecided on the tube material anyways ... should i get that petg or should i just swap to acrylics instead?

ty so much aleady guys.

I have 1 more question tho: I checked those fans on ekwb and they seem to be very loud (20-30db). Im used to having fans around 15db.

Are there more silent fans that work well for radiators or are they all this loud because of their higher static pressure ?

Also is there anything on my List that u would change/remove for a cheaper budget?

Fan specs can often be quite meaningless as it's very rare that you'll ever run them at full speed. That said, you'd be hard pressed to find any quieter fans.
